Here they are as delivered, as finished and on the layout. I still have a bit of work to do on the couplings, it appears these small locos have various types of couplings, but they aren't all compatible with each other.

<p>
Here is a video of the loco in action.

<p>
To go with these you need an electric chassis and I used a KATO 11-109 Chassis purchased from <a href="https://www.tramfabriek.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Tramfabriek,</a> the owner of who I saw at Rattery Exhibition.
<p>
The kit (shown in last blog) itself was purchased from <a href="https://brooks3dmodels.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Brooks 3D Models</a>.
<p>
It was supposed to be easy to put together without instructions but I followed a Youtube video <a href="https://youtu.be/A4VkpR0JtvE?si=-hZT28tutTkzmA_q" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Constructing the Glyn Valley Loco </a>which was very good.
<p>
Pictures follow of various stages in the construction. The scale is very small and it wasn't that easy. Tweezers are essential as are good eyes, mine could be better!

I was surprised by how small people could make a narrow gauge layout and just how much detail they could add.
<p>
I have decided that my narrow gauge will run from behind houses at the back of the layout, through the town and on to the front right corner, running over one of the storage sidings which will become a hidden siding. <br><br>
For Christmas I rquested a 009 locomotive kit and a chassis to fit it on, and I now have to construct and paint the kit, add the backscene on the layout and modify it to take the narrow gauge track. That will keep me busy for a while.<p>

Accidentally programmed all trains to same DCC address earlier, but have managed to put them all back as they were. Must remember not to do that again.

Well we have three buildings in the yard now but the exit on the right needs to be completed, this is done with two bridges, one over the canal and one over the railway. Added at a slight angle, there is a bit of pavement on top.

And we are almost there, this was quite a lot of work from a downloaded plan costing £10 from Scalescenes.com.
Just add a suitable loco and truck, a few signs on the buildings and a street name. The final touches can include adding a bit if greenery around the fence and the base of the bridge, but I had nothing suitable for by the fence. The fence isn't part of the kit it was purchased separately for another project, but I had enough to use some here. When the back wall of the box file is vertical you can see the backscene that comes with the kit.

Thats it for now. Not everything worked totally as well as I had hoped, the key is the quality and thickness of the card you use. If I could find better card I could rebuild it, since once you have downloaded the kit you can use it as often as you like.
And just as I finish, what should arrive in the post but a bag of ballast. So it's back to the main model, and time to run a few trains before we add more ballast. That's all for now though.

Here is Building B being constructed and in place in the box. The side of Building B slots into Building A which fills the back wall of the box. A bit of Velcro on the back wall of these building will hold the backscene in place when the box lid is raised. The infill between the tracks isn't yet in place but will be added later.

Having finished the first two building it is time to start building C which will fit over the tracks at the left hand side of the box.
This has an extra part on the side which is a hoist that hangs over the canal, so material can be hoisted straight from a barge into the building.

There are green doors which can be fitted to the lower part of the buildin, but if you want the model to fit in the box then these doors have to be fitted in the open position with only the backs visible.

This is a standalone diorama, or can be fitted into the corner of a layout. The track options can be created to match up to an existing siding on your layout.
Once I had downloaded it I realised I had quite a big job to do. With 34 pages of Kit parts, to mount on Card, and 22 Pages of instructions (236 Steps in all), it was the equivalent of a 1000 piece jigsaw but in 3D.
There is the base, with your railway tracks embedded in the surface, then a canal barge, then three buildings and a bridge to construct. I started with the base and the barge.

<p>
Having finished the base and the barge, the buildings are constructed in order, Building A, B and C. The key here is to get good quality card that won't bend. Unfortunately some of the card I was using wasn't that good, so the finish isn't as good as I was hoping for. I could rebuild them of couse, because once you have downloaded the kit you can use it over and over again, but I first have to source a better quality card. They also recommend three different thicknesses, and the parts fit together best if you stick strictly to the thickness of card suggested in the instructions.
<p>
Anyway, here's building A in progress.

<p>The picture below shows where the building will fit in the box file. A backscne will be added on the lid, and they send two versions, an A3 version for if you have an A3 printer or two A4 pieces if you haven't. You will see it later. The back wall of building B is also visible in this picture.

That's it for part one, buildings B anc C will follow shortly. oldwulfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09285912972791988215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5661284454309946252.post-70680360266364380122021-03-11T16:04:00.002+00:002021-03-11T16:07:13.716+00:00The latest version of the modelA friend was asking what the latest version of model looks like from above, so I took a few pictures. These show what an unfinished state it is in, and a rather untidy room but you can see the double track oval round the layout, with sidings at rear leading to goods shed and brewery.
<p>
There are tunnels at both ends with town and fields over the track, and a set of storage sidings off one end with a triangular track(reverse loop) arrangement, so trains can leave the main layout and can then reverse back onto layout facing the other way. This removes the need for a turntable to turn stock around.
<p>
The main station has two through roads and a bay platform with two further platforms with a run round section for the engine that brings the train into these platforms.

Railway investigators are trying to establish the cause.

At the moment the cause is believed to be an unknown obstruction in West Tunnel. oldwulfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09285912972791988215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5661284454309946252.post-9813983592636071902020-05-25T16:14:00.002+01:002020-06-04T17:53:29.175+01:00Express Trains through the StationToday I thought I would run a couple of trains to keep the track clean. The picture shows how far I have got, there is still a bit to do to tidy it up and finish it all off.
<p>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiO156G9A9ilhyphenhyphensKh0Mw79S0Modm_cmoPYy7adcnMo_a3aTXTs5YbonWsTBGSnCL66qq4w6e9jrXMbyKmeNnXaAG51WWlp-V8M3BGC8BkF48GK_4RAaRoIqo85IGBEpSFHkzOobMJv2s0/s1600/IMG_2241.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiO156G9A9ilhyphenhyphensKh0Mw79S0Modm_cmoPYy7adcnMo_a3aTXTs5YbonWsTBGSnCL66qq4w6e9jrXMbyKmeNnXaAG51WWlp-V8M3BGC8BkF48GK_4RAaRoIqo85IGBEpSFHkzOobMJv2s0/s320/IMG_2241.JPG" width="320" height="240" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1200" /></a>
<p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJq31cYcd5Scn7ntcdTK3dMG9Ssoq_0d2yIPtT3EWwFO9KHg48cxvUX7UhQEx8k01-MZoULCjlw6eDLNyEekbbg9ct8RvWN4n4RI-CDsKhGQQOFXlc0LHEOurbKm23qk4tDPxmPjlp_os/s1600/IMG_2238.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJq31cYcd5Scn7ntcdTK3dMG9Ssoq_0d2yIPtT3EWwFO9KHg48cxvUX7UhQEx8k01-MZoULCjlw6eDLNyEekbbg9ct8RvWN4n4RI-CDsKhGQQOFXlc0LHEOurbKm23qk4tDPxmPjlp_os/s320/IMG_2238.JPG" width="320" height="240" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1200" /></a>
<p>
In the other back corner I have also created a tunnel as before but not fully decided what to put on top at the moment. There is currently a factory entrance and a boilerhouse up there, I think some walls to mark out the factory yard would be good and some roadway outside and by the shops. The roadway also needs to go off the scene somewhere. In the lower part of the town we need a road from the level crossing at the back to the Station entrance and also a yard by the goods shed.
<p>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoqNIxUFacQ0yw7o_Vu7nBdq1z889XDFuS_Dx8DaB43ROi5cSySqPtvckX9iszTuOzf5HyU9fkiPCEsPpHuFa33zHEhdokRpP0JheqvmhPk_m3HQK3mr3iyJVm6eQHUYVSr0wk6_Buivc/s1600/IMG_2239.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoqNIxUFacQ0yw7o_Vu7nBdq1z889XDFuS_Dx8DaB43ROi5cSySqPtvckX9iszTuOzf5HyU9fkiPCEsPpHuFa33zHEhdokRpP0JheqvmhPk_m3HQK3mr3iyJVm6eQHUYVSr0wk6_Buivc/s320/IMG_2239.JPG" width="320" height="240" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1200" /></a>
<p>
The brewery siding has been put back but at present it is being used as a coach store. I need to use the coaches to test the clearances in the tunnels, I don't want trains to get stuck in there, at the moment trains pass through ok. Things need to be fixed so it stays that way. Oh, and the drop out of the back door of the railway hotel is a bit far, so I may put some kind of yard behind it, one that can be easily removed if I need to access that part of the layout. At the moment I can reach everywhere on the layout quite easily, which was the original reason for the rebuild.

So I have brought all the buildings back into the room to see where i am going to fit them. at the moments I have the brewery, a factory, the goods shed, and a number of houses and shops. so here they are in what might be the permanent home. (or it might not, after a second look tomorrow.)

I am quite pleased with the progress as I can see a number of areas where models can go apart from the main running lines. Access to all areas with the hole in the centre of the layout is now much easier. A brief video of the trains running can be seen by clicking <a href="https://youtu.be/UPIJUxgsmqo ">the link.</a><p>
Watch out for the fast diesel shunter. <p>The next step will be to bring the buildings back into the room and see where they can be fitted, the last bits of track can then be laid around the buildings. oldwulfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09285912972791988215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5661284454309946252.post-5058104470006523202020-04-17T17:00:00.000+01:002020-04-17T17:11:22.955+01:00A bit more progress and some testing.Moving on from the other day I now have a baseboard I can get around and have laid a few bits of track. I didn't like the last layout I had started to construct. although it overcame one of the shortfalls of the original 6x4 layout it had a few new problems of its own. Access was no easier and the drop down sections were not easy to manage so trains did not derail. So it had to go.
<p>

Taking it apart was fun as I wasn't sure which bits were holding the other bits up

Now to reconstruct a baseboard with a space in the middle to make access easier.

<p>
It needed a couple of new legs for support but its nearly ready to use, I just need to design a layout to fit now.
<p>

<p>
I have decided the layout has too many issues to be continued with so I will be seeing if I can redesign it in a more accessible way, and with more action areas at the front. This may involve removing all the baseboards and rebuilding them, so that will be fun. I'm not sure which bits hold up which other bits at present, so anything could happen when I start dismantling it.
<p>
Anyway, below is the link to the video of the trains this week, just click on it to go to youtube, and make it full screen for better viewing.

Whilst doing it I took a couple of photos to show that the model needs a lot of work to get it to look right.

Remember you can click on the pictures to see bigger versions. That connector is temporary by the way, I need to solder a proper wired connection between the tracks soon.
Bye for now, more work to do.

Takes quite a bit of effort to build due to all the small parts but I have now finished it and fixed it to the main building.
Here it is sitting on the layout, but not in it's final position. Remember you can click on the picture to see a larger version.

<p>
The next step is to build a bit more on the ends which will slope down to rail level.oldwulfhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09285912972791988215noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5661284454309946252.post-49629551088552556182020-01-14T17:56:00.000+00:002020-01-14T17:56:01.694+00:00Building the railway station, with help from MorganThe railway station with the missing part (which Metcalfe replaced very quickly) took quite a while to build. I even had some assistance at one stage from our cat, Morgan. You dohave to follow the instructions closely. I missed one and now there is a part missing, but fortunately it is inside the building and isn't critical as it doesn't show from outside.

It does look quite good now it is finished but it required a lot of delicate work around the platform canopy, whch cannot be rushed. Here is the front (street side of the building with and without it's canopy.

The station platform has a roof but one of the panels has gone missing somewhere in the house (I blame the cat) so I've constructed a temporary one which can be replaced if the real part turns up.
Here is the platform side, with and without the roof.

<p>
I just need to build some additional platform each side now to create a sensible length of station for the layout.
